Born in New York and brought up in Los Angeles, Avital was raised by an eclectic bicoastal family of musicians, social activists, community and spiritual leaders. Singing before she could speak, Avital believes music is an innately human drive as natural as breathing. Starting in infancy, she performed supporting her father, a professional singer-songwriter. By 12, she had taught herself to play several instruments and began writing songs shortly thereafter. Classically trained in theater in her youth, Avital performed in numerous Shakespeare plays and a few musicals before putting down roots in the L.A. punk and indie rock scene, where she felt more at home. From 2017-2019 she was lead vocalist, guitar player, and primary songwriter/arranger of alt rock outfit BTCHKRFT. Now, she's carving out her own sound, combining pop hooks with textured, kaleidoscopic beats, erudite lyrics, ethereal guitar tones, and r&b/soul-influenced vocals. She prefers to work behind the scenes, in the live music industry and recording studios.​

Avital is passionately involved in policy advocacy, especially putting a stop to institutional child abuse. She lives in Los Angeles with her cat, Smudge. She is releasing music on her own label, Adult Music since 2022 under the artist name Avital IRL.
